So, I did something incredibly silly. Someone asked me a Downton question and I answered on my personal blog. I don’t remember if it was a question for this blog or my Downton blog, but since my answer could be relevant for both, here it is:

Is it just me, or do you think Edith should have totally gone to America with her grandma to party it up in order to get rid of her left at the altar blues?

Do I personally think this? Yes! Absolutely. I’ve thought that ever since the Edith & Martha scene in 3x02. While everyone else was focused on saving Downton and the money woes, Martha seemed to be the only person *really* paying attention to Edith. (It’s my personal headcanon that Edith was Martha’s favorite. It may not be the case, but I’d like to think so, since Violet, Robert, and Cora obviously don’t appreciate her enough.)
I also think following Edith to America would’ve been a great storyline. I like the idea of her being a feminist and a journalist, but it seems to be her simply becoming a mix of Sybil and Tom (Sybil with her suffragette work and Tom being a journalist for a period of time).

I also think she should’ve spent more time with her Aunt Rosamund. Not just because I think Rosamund should’ve been in Series 3 WAY more (that’s a whole other question), but because she has the experience of being alone for an extended period of time. Though she’s a widow, I really can see her sympathizing with Edith more than the others could because she was alone too and she became an independent woman living by herself in London. I really think Edith could’ve benefited from staying with Rosamund for a while longer (sans Rose & Matthew). Also, I can see Rosamund giving great pep talks!

Sorry for the long answer! (Downton questions excite me! :)) But yes, I absolutely love the idea of Edith going to visit Martha in America (or Rosamund in London!)

Ann Latimer and Henry Lennox should have hooked up in the 2004 adaptation of North and South.

Although I’m incredibly sad that they killed off Sybil in Downton Abbey, I’m glad that she was remembered as the sweetest person and that her death had such an impact on everyone. The reactions of Thomas, Cora and Tom moved me.

I don’t like Keira Knightley in period dramas. I didn’t like her version of Elizabeth Bennet and I will not like her Anna Karenina. She just doesn’t fit these roles.

I love period dramas!  Every time I see a confession that catches my interest, I search for it on Instant Netflix.  Unfortunately, they are never on there.

Does anyone want to share how they watch their period dramas (other than Netflix)? Personally, I think movie catalogs and Amazon.com are great places to find some of these gems! Anyone else have any ideas?

As great as Keira Knightley is, she is nowhere near as good as Elizabeth Bennet as Jennifer Ehle was.

While I love period drama men in their fancy attire, I also enjoy their appearance after they take off their cravat/tie, hat, coat. John Thornton from North and South is a great example of this.

“The Abduction Club” is my favourite period drama ever. I’ll never understand why it hasn’t been promoted more, it deserves so much love. I wish there were more period dramas that keep a lighthearted tone but still have deep characters.
